Below are some of the heritage, arts and cultural organisations that I have supported with evaluation consultancy. 

CURRENT (2025)

Torbay Council – Evaluation of Torbay Council’s Heritage Places Development Year, as part of a £10m 10-year relationship with Heritage Fund’s ‘Heritage Places’ – a new long-term strategic initiative aiming to make heritage integral to local plans, to inspire communities, boost the local economy and build pride in the local area.

Trinity Centre Cardiff – Evaluation of its ‘Sanctuary for All‘ project, supported by £892K from the NLHF. This project is delivering wide ranging improvements to the former Methodist church and supports the work of 24 community groups based there.

Wildwood Trust, Devon – Designing and delivering a comprehensive evaluation for Saving Devon’s Native Crayfish Project. This circa £250k project is part funded by NLHF and is playing a vital role in species recovery by saving Devon’s native white clawed crayfish from extinction. 

Redruth Revival CIC Evaluation of the ‘Redruth Buttermarket – Rediscovering the Market Town’ project, which is a major refurbishment of the Buttermarket complex of buildings. The project is part-funded by the NLHF under its Heritage Enterprise scheme, alongside funding from the High Street Heritage Action Zone and the Architectural Heritage Fund.

PREVIOUS (2024 -2013)

South West Heritage Trust (2024/2025) Evaluation of a NLHF Second Round Development Phase and the creation of an evaluation plan for the Delivery Phase, following the acquisition of the Chew Valley Hoard for the nation. The Chew Valley Hoard is the highest value treasure acquisition on record at £4.3m. This project will create a dedicated new gallery at the Museum of Somerset for the permanent display of the hoard and deliver an ambitious two-year public programme that will engage audiences in innovative and diverse ways, develop skills and improve organisational sustainability.

Harvey’s Foundry Trust (2023/2025) Evaluation of the £689k John Harvey House renovation project that revitalised the Grade II* listed Heritage Centre to ensure it can continue to function as a key cultural anchor in Hayle. Funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, NLHF and Historic England.

Creative Arc (2024)Evaluation and ‘critical friend’ support for small funded projects commissioned to shape  people’s wellbeing and places in Exeter through cultural innovation. Projects included ‘Women of Wonder’ by Scratchworks Theatre Company, and ‘Proud to be’ by local creative arts and heritage organisation, Lightbear Lane. 

Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney (2024)  Evaluation support for its NLHF project transforming a Grade II listed former refectory from a furniture salesroom into a public restaurant, creating a new social enterprise. This project supported Emmaus ‘companions’ to develop new skills in hospitality, gain confidence in customer service and prepare them to re-enter work. Alongside developing the destination offer, companions and the local community explored and celebrated the site’s fascinating history. I collaborated with filmmaker Mike Liggins to tell the impact story of this project.

Torbay Council (2023/2024)  Evaluation of NLHF-funded resilience project ‘Developing a resilient future for Oldway’, which invested in a masterplanning process for the Oldway Mansion site, and developed structures and capacity for a long-term project.

Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) (2023)Summative evaluation of 1-year Cultural Connector Service. A partnership delivered with Wellbeing Exeter and Aged UK.

Cornwall Council (2022/2023)Evaluation of St. Austell’s Townscape Heritage Scheme – A £1.3m NLHF-funded 4-year scheme which offered grants for traditional repairs and reinstatement of missing architectural detailing to targeted historic buildings in the Conservation Area.

Royal West of England Academy (RWA), Bristol (2021 to 2023) Evaluation of £4.5m ‘Light and Inspiration Project’, following a NLHF grant. This project addressed urgent capital issues that threatened organisational stability, and deepened community engagement ensuring people of all backgrounds benefit from the unique built and living RWA heritage.

John Wesley’s New Room (Museum), Bristol (2023) Evaluation of ‘Raising our Platform’ project – a pilot programme that increased organisational resilience through gaining a deeper understanding of the visitor experience whilst also reflecting on team working practices and organisational culture. 

Trinity Centre, Cardiff (2023)NLHF Development Phase evaluation and design of evaluation plan for the Delivery Phase. This project aimed to future proof a historic landmark and transform the Centre’s approach to supporting refugees, asylum seekers and the most disadvantaged people in the local community.

Literature Works – Evaluation of ‘Quay Words 2020-2022’: a partnership between Exeter Canal and Quay Trust, the charity charged with developing Exeter Quayside, and Literature Works, the literature development charity for South West England. Quay Words was part funded by ACE and showcased literature as an accessible and diverse art form. This hub for literature was a central pillar of Exeter’s successful bid to gain UNESCO City of Literature status.

South Gloucestershire Council – Evaluation of £1.76m Winterbourne Medieval Barn Project following an award of £936k HLF grant. The project secured a sustainable future for Grade II* listed building as a multi-purpose heritage venue and community hub.

Tavistock Town Council Evaluation of £1.8m Guildhall Gateway Project following award of £817k HLF grant. The project created a new Devon Gateway for the World Heritage Site Mining area through a visitor interpretation centre in the Grade II* listed Tavistock Guildhall, including a new volunteer, schools & family programme.

Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) –  Evaluation of ‘Resilient RAMM: Building our Fundraising Future’ that transformed RAMM’s fundraising ambitions and built the foundations of a professional, sustainable fundraising operation that strengthened this ACE NPO’s long-term financial resilience.

The New Room Bristol –  Evaluation of 5-year £4m ‘Horsefair Project’, following NLHF £2.6m grant: The project aimed to ensure a sustainable future through engaging with a much larger and diverse audience and attracting greater volunteer support to operate the new visitor centre and improved museum. The capital scheme also delivered a cafe, resource centre and educational facilities.

Ilfracombe Museum – Evaluation of ‘Stay Curious’ project:  This Art Fund_  resilience project re-engaged family audiences with the museum after a year of closure due to Covid. It featured an artist-in-residence alongside a programme of digital and workforce development – all aimed at improving organisational resilience and reconnecting local people with the weird and wonderful collections.

Tavistock Town Council Evaluation of Tavistock’s £2.2m Townscape Heritage Initiative (TTHI): An HLF funded project to revive the town centre by preserving and regenerating key heritage assets, through grants given to local property owners, businesses and organisations to carry out urgent repairs and restoration works to historic properties, alongside public realm enhancements within the Tavistock Conservation Area and World Heritage Site.

Heritage Arts People – Evaluation consultancy on a range of projects, including the community archaeology project, ‘Discovering Dunkeswell Abbey’, and an intergenerational food heritage project ‘What’s on your plate’. HAP brings communities together to enjoy and explore the Southwest’s rich and varied heritage.

Literature Works – Evaluation for the literature development agency for South West England (an NPO) of their ‘Word on Tour’ programme. This was a 1-year ACE funded live literature tour across South West libraries.

South West Heritage Trust (SWHT) – Evaluation consultancy for their ‘Small Grant: Big Improvement’ project across 3 museums.

Libraries Unlimited – Evaluation consultancy for the first year of its ground breaking ACE funded Evolve program, as one of 6 new Library NPOs.

Dartington Hall Trust – Evaluation of £998k HLF-funded ‘Heritage Revealed Project’. This project restored and conserved the medieval Grade II* listed Deer Park Wall to encourage engagement with the parkland through an accessible interpreted walk and a range of public engagement activities including a schools’ programme, family events, informal learning activities and volunteer opportunities.

South Gloucestershire Council in partnership with Winterbourne Medieval Barn Trust – Development of an evaluation plan and framework for a HLF Round 2 submission for the Grade II* listed Winterbourne Medieval Barn refurbishment project. 

St Sidwell’s Community Centre – Evaluation of ‘Reviving Lost History and Building Community’ project. Evaluation findings demonstrated immediate individual and community impacts and the legacy of reviving local heritage in an area of high social deprivation.

South West Heritage Trust (SWHT) – Evaluation planning and support for ‘Devon Remembers Heritage Project’, a 3-year HLF project commemorating the First World War across Devon, working with community groups to explore the history and heritage of the FWW and how the War impacts on local communities.

Blackdown Hills AONB – Evaluation of ‘Blackdown Metal Makers’, a family heritage project across schools, community centres and libraries.  Part funded by HLF. 

The Devon Carousel Project – Evaluated several of their ACE funded early years arts projects including some that partnered with Libraries Unlimited, National Trust, Sure Start Children’s Centres and Royal Albert Memorial Museum.
